Taking Pictures of People Who Take Pictures of Themselves
by Sidney Lo

Yet another book photographed on wood flooring, albeit not mine this time. Sidney Lo is self-publishing a book of Superfuture member portraits. This is a project he’s been working on for 3 years now. I was staying at his apartment during the summer of 2007 and got to help him with a few portraits. He later travelled everyfuckingwhere to complete the portraits and even slept on my couch for a night during his time in Washington. So, I’m really excited to see the finished product and I’ll be copping on Saturday at the Self Edge party. They go on sale on his site May 3rd for $35.

Also, that’s Herman in those sexy Raf jawns.

Matt Morgan is an artist from Los Angeles. This dude’s been at the top of my ffffound ‘favorite users’ list forever. The site is pretty good at matching people up. We don’t actually even have any saved images in common at the moment, but we do seem to both have similar tastes in art, design and raw drug raps. I’m really liking his work and the fact that I was actually nodding my head along to the soundtrack of his site is crazy. Music on websites usually pisses me the fuck off.

Pictured are his book, VOL I, and a couple of the paintings within.

One of the first few images I saved to my ffffound was a tattoo that was part of an ongoing project by artist Tom Morrill. He had friends and family get tattoos of the date they were being tattooed. It’s been well over a year since I saved that image and I’m still really into it. Somewhere between the combination of the meta-ness and the type I really like this idea. Here’s the rest of them.

For awhile now I’d had an idea for an design/illustration project in my head about mythical women depicted in songs (ie. Bonita Applebum, Beauty Jackson, Mona Lisa, etc.). I wasn’t sure how exactly to illustrate it or what to do with it. I can’t just make posters and suddenly I thought a pin-up calendar would be a good solution. So, I’m fucking around online looking at illustrated pinups and I find a pretty cool image of a playing card. It took a bit of googling to find its source, but it was so worth it.

These images are from a Russian deck of playing cards made in 2003. I’d assumed they were older and it admittedly feels like less of a gem knowing it’s not 30 years old or something, but they’re still great.

Normally, I’d post something like this on the visual blog, but fuck yes girls in old Raf Simons.

check out the rest of the editorial on History of Our World

I just finished the pilot and David Simon stays bringing the heat. Obviously, The Wire was the second coming and I was sad when Generation Kill ended. Homicide: Life on the Street is really good too. I never caught it on tv, but I’ve been watching it over from the beginning. Homicide is worth checking out if you liked The Wire as they’re both based on the same Simon book.

I lived in the DC area for a few years when I was younger so the feel of those shows was always familiar. I’ve never been to New Orleans, but a friend of mine that’s from there (sup chad) was really surprised with the authenticity. Television shows’ depictions of the cities they’re in has always interested me a lot. The only depiction of Louisiana on tv that I’m watching is True Blood and I’m not really holding out for authenticity there. I get excited when a show is set in a new place. I think that’s another reason I love Breaking Bad so much.
