Standard is an art gallery in Oslo. I check their site quite often as I really enjoy their exhibitions and I’ve no plans of flying to Norway unfortunately. The current exhibition, Where Do You See Yourself in Ten Years, is a collaboration of a handful of artists including one of my favorites, Gardar Eide Einarsson. I’m into this quote featured in the exhibit:
“ Such a painter makes problems for himself, of course. He will most likely be a fearsome mixture of hedonist and Puritan, and puritanical above all about the possibility of repeating himself, and leaning on his skills. He will have an infuriating habit of not understanding how good he has been at certain moments; he will not understand that trying to reproduce one’s own classic style is no sin [sic], because the attempt will always fail and give rise to further variations. ”

You remember these? Illusion has always intrigued me. I had a few posters of these with hidden dinosaurs or something when I was much younger. I found a program for creating them and I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. This one uses a default texture admittedly. I want to do some more with my own textures and hidden images though. The program is also fun for making glitched out images as it let’s you fuck with the settings quite a bit.
To see the hidden image get close enough to the screen so that your eyes give up and it’s blurry (just put your nose to the screen). Then slowly back away and you should see it. The depth map I used on this is probably a bit too complex for such a small image. I can make it out, but I know what it is.

This is a fun video by Danish band The Good The Bad. It reminded me of another site I recently came across, Household Holes, which details methods for fucking househould objects (most recently an Xbox 360) much like the young lady in the music video. HH seems to be for dudes though. The track is also available for free here.

Your Lucky Day — 2010
Short about chaos in a convenience store after an elderly patron wins the lottery by Dan Brown, who previously created the intro for House. Also, dude from Boy Meets World is in it. The editing is pretty cool, with flashes of strong imagery as the action takes place.
One more thing, I don’t know if this is an in-joke for the sound people or what, but I can always spot that “78 point 5, code 6, 105 north avenue 52” cop sample that is in any TV show or movie with police. I first heard it while playing Spider-Man Cartoon Maker. Which, now that I think of it, was definitely the first time I made digital art. I remember making Peter walk up to MJ and say “SEX”. I thought it was fucking hilarious.

I’m a sucker for overtly filmy photography and Dylan Forsberg does it well. His website is just a simple blog and it’s a 10x better than most Flash sites as far as viewing his work. I also love that he posts very large images since I need a new desktop and I also like to steal people’s images and and make ‘art’ with them. He updates his blog regularly and sells prints of any image there with various sizes. Check it out.
Bit of photoshop love to an old sketch.
