This just came in the mail. German; real prevalent grid. It even smells good.

Francis Picabia et 391 — 1966
I’ve decided on getting this image from Francis Picabia’s publication, 391, tattooed on my chest (I’m going to try to get this done by Sarah Schor). I copped this book for some more info and it definitely delivered. The book is full of info on 391, but none of it is in English. I just need a French girl to read it to me.

Chromatic Environment by Carlos Cruz-Deiz
Beautiful, reminds me of the scene in The Holy Mountain when the fool enters the alchemist’s palace. This is an image from Cruz-Diez’s book Reflections on Color which someone on Flickr found at Powell’s. Last time I was in Portland I found an awesome 40 year old Op Art book that I’ve abused quite often. The cover of this book alone would’ve forced me to cop. This book can be found on Amazon though if you’re interested.
Check the set to see the rest of the images.

Butoh is a form of modern performance art/dance that originated in Japan in 1959. I honestly know very little about it, but I really like these photos from Butoh: Shades of Darkness. A bit of googling tells me that up here in Washington is the best place to see a performance in the states. For a bit more info here’s an article on Butoh in Seattle.

“The Sameness,” as originally named by Lois Lowry, suggests a social balance through the rules of order and structure. All of life’s pain and spontaneity disappear through a rigid architecture of overwhelming conformity.
Alex Fuller and Gabe Usadel designed and produced The Sameness a 32-page book with heavy Bauhaus and De Stijl influences. You can get your hands one of the 250 hand-numbered books here for $12.00 + shipping.

I got my hands on Sidney’s book, Taking Pictures of People Who Take Pictures of Themselves, and I’m glad I copped. It’s so crazy seeing the project come to fruition. My shot is from back in 2007 standing on the roof of Sid’s old apartment building. I can’t remember how many stories up I was, but it was made all the more dangerous by the alien we later spotted in the full crops of the shots on the roof. If I knew how I’d post a pic of me diving face-first into the book, but I’m pretty sure I’d die trying.
Once again, the book is on sale here.

Taking Pictures of People Who Take Pictures of Themselves
by Sidney Lo
Yet another book photographed on wood flooring, albeit not mine this time. Sidney Lo is self-publishing a book of Superfuture member portraits. This is a project he’s been working on for 3 years now. I was staying at his apartment during the summer of 2007 and got to help him with a few portraits. He later travelled everyfuckingwhere to complete the portraits and even slept on my couch for a night during his time in Washington. So, I’m really excited to see the finished product and I’ll be copping on Saturday at the Self Edge party. They go on sale on his site May 3rd for $35.
Also, that’s Herman in those sexy Raf jawns.
